Let Us Be Heard - Jean Smith

Wednesday Jun 24, 2020
In this episode CS interviews Jean Smith, a mother of 2, a strong female presence and a wonderful influence on the younger generation, especially within the young black community. We wanted to talk to Jean because we wanted to gain perspective about the things we simply do not know. What we do know is it's our job to know and learn and gain as much knowledge as possible to do more than just spread kindness. Bottom line is stated perfectly by Jean in this interview: "We have to work to be anti racist. We can love each other and we can be kind to each other because that’s what we’re supposed to do. But we have to do the work. We have to do the work from whatever seat we’re in." We feel called, and Jean has inspired both of us to do whatever we can to let everybody be heard.
A note from our guest Jean Smith on her thoughts, opinions and viewpoints shared on this episode: “My thoughts are my own and not affiliated or endorsed by any outside organizations.”

I am Jean’s older sister. I am 13 years older. Being born in the 60s , my experiences as a bi-racial child and adult are quite different. Being accepted by white people or black people was difficult. I was neither of these races, but I was both. I did NOT fit in. Mixed race marriages were frowned upon...AND the made a baby? I have so much I can tell about racism in the generation before Jean.
